REMARKS:
Tropical Cyclone Luana is weakening as it moves over the Dampier Peninsula.

Convection has flared around the system over the last few hours, but is less
organised near the centre. The position of Luana has been determined from
Broome radar with good confidence.

Luana crossed just north of Beagle Bay at 0600 UTC, with gusts to 57 knots
observed at the Lombadina airstrip at 0848 UTC.  Surrounding observation sites
Koolan Island and Derby Airport have reported gales. Significant tides have
occurred in the King Sound during the Saturday afternoon high tide mark.

Intensity set to 45 knots based on a gradual weakening trend. Dvorak and
objective aids were considered but not used due to the centre being over land.

The system may maintain intensity for some hours after landfall due to
proximity to the waters of King Sound. Weakening below TC strength is not
forecast until Sunday when the system is inland from Derby. After weakening to
a tropical low, the remnants of Luana are likely to continue to move inland
through the southern Kimberley and the North Interior, producing areas of heavy
rainfall.

Headline:
Tropical Cyclone Luana is moving over the Dampier Peninsula between Broome and Derby.

Areas Affected:
Warning Zone
Broome to Cockatoo Island, including Derby and adjacent inland areas.

Watch Zone
None.

Cancelled Zone
None.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Luana 16U at 8:00 pm AWST:
Intensity: Category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 85 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 120 kilometres per hour.

Location: within 20 kilometres of 17.4 degrees South 123.1 degrees East, estimated to be 55 kilometres west of Derby and 110 kilometres northeast of Broome.

Movement: southeast at 13 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Luana, category 1, is weakening as it moves inland in the Western Kimberley. Wind and rain impacts are occurring from north of Broome to Kuri Bay and are expected to extend south this evening and overnight.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible for the northwest Kimberley district, including the coast and adjacent inland areas this evening and Sunday.

Tides will be higher than normal between Beagle Bay and Kuri Bay this evening and LARGE WAVES may produce MINOR FLOODING of low-lying coastal areas as the system crosses the coast.

A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for peripheral areas in the Kimberley.

Recommended Action:
Ensure you know what to do in a cyclone. For the latest DFES community alerts and warnings visit www.emergency.wa.gov.au or download the Emergency WA app.

Intensity: Category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 75 kilometres per
hour with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 30 kilometres of 18.0 degrees South 123.6 degrees East,
estimated to be 75 kilometres south of Derby and 145 kilometres east of Broome.
Movement: southeast at 14 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Luana, category 1, is slowly weakening as it moves inland in
the Western Kimberley. Wind and rain impacts are occurring near the system
centre through the Derby and Curtin region and southern parts of the Dampier
Peninsula to the east of Broome.

Luana is expected to weaken below tropical cyclone strength during Sunday
morning after moving further inland, however heavy rain is likely to extend
further to the south during Sunday afternoon and Monday.

Hazards:
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h are occurring near the system centre
and over southern parts of King Sound. These gales may extend to adjacent
inland areas south of Derby overnight before easing later on Sunday morning.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely for the northwest
Kimberley district near the system centre. This currently includes Derby and
surrounding areas and southern parts of the Dampier Peninsula east of Broome.
This area will extend to adjacent inland areas as Tropical Cyclone Luana moves
south

Tides will be higher than normal between Beagle Bay and Kuri Bay and LARGE
WAVES may produce MINOR FLOODING of low-lying coastal areas.

A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for adjacent areas in the
Kimberley.

Warning zone: Coastal areas in the south of King Sound including Derby, and
adjacent inland areas south of Derby.

Watch zone: None.

Cancelled zone: None.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Luana 16U at 5:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 65 kilometres per
hour with wind gusts to 95 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 30 kilometres of 18.0 degrees South 123.6 degrees East,
estimated to be 75 kilometres south of Derby and 145 kilometres east of Broome.
Movement: southeast at 10 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Luana, category 1, is weakening as it moves inland in the
Western Kimberley. Wind and rain impacts are continuing near the system centre,

Luana is weakening and will likely be downgraded to a tropical low this
morning, however heavy rain is likely to extend further to the south in the WA
interior during Sunday afternoon and Monday.

Hazards:
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h may occur near the system centre.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely near the system
centre. This includes areas inland from Derby and southern parts of the Dampier
Peninsula east of Broome. This area will extend to adjacent inland areas as
Tropical Cyclone Luana moves south.

Tides will be higher than normal between Beagle Bay and Kuri Bay and LARGE
WAVES may produce MINOR FLOODING of low-lying coastal areas.

A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for adjacent areas in the
Kimberley.

and warnings visit www.emergency.wa.gov.au or download the Emergency WA app.

REMARKS:
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Luana has weakened to a tropical low. While the system
still shows a reasonable satellite signature and deep convection is persisting
around the system over land, the radar signature has deteriorated and the
centre become more diffuse. Peripheral observations are no longer reporting any
gales.

Centre position based on Broome radar with moderate confidence. Intensity
estimated at 30 knots based on peripheral observations and NWP.

The remnant tropical low will be steered south through the interior of Western
Australia around the periphery of a mid-level ridge to the east. The broader
environment remains favourable in the short term, with low shear persisting
along track as an upper trough to the south relaxes. Ex-Luana is likely to
remain a coherent system over land for several days.
